Alessandro D'Avenia

Writer and teacher

Alessandro D'Avenia, born on 2 May 1977 in Palermo, is a writer and literature teacher. From a young age, he was influenced by the figure of don Pino Puglisi, whom he met during his school years at the Liceo classico Vittorio Emanuele II of Palermo. After graduating in Classics at Sapienza in Roma in 2000, defending a thesis with the Hellenist Luigi Enrico Rossi, he obtained a scholarship that allowed him to earn a PhD at the Università degli Studi di Siena in 2004, with a thesis on the sirens in Homer and their relationship with the Muses in antiquity.
